Nobody's vehicle survives a Cultus summer intact. Sand comes home in the towels, in the shoes, in the dog, and works its way down into the carpet where it just sits and grinds. Add a wet swimsuit that lived under the back seat for four days and you've got a problem you can smell before you can see it.
Dirty Details is about fifteen minutes from the lake, on Yale Road in Chilliwack. We've been pulling summers out of vehicles since 2020 — interior, exterior and complete details, by appointment, and we can deliver the finished vehicle back to you.
Sand doesn't vacuum out — it has to be pulled out
Beach sand is heavier and sharper than household dirt. It sinks through the carpet pile to the backing, and a shop vac drags the surface layer off and leaves the rest behind. You'll find it every time you pull the mats for the next two years.
Getting it out properly means agitating the carpet, working it back up to the surface and extracting it — the same process we use on ground-in field dirt. It's not glamorous. It's just the only thing that actually works.

The August smell
Damp is the real damage from a lake summer. Wet towels, life jackets and swimsuits sit in a hot vehicle, the moisture goes into the carpet and padding, and by the end of the season the whole cabin smells like a boathouse. Air fresheners bury it for a week and then it comes back, because the source is still in the fibres.
Steam and extraction pull the moisture and what's grown in it back out at the source. If it's gone properly sour, odour treatment is an add-on we quote when we see the vehicle.
Boat rigs and the Columbia Valley run
The tow vehicle takes its own beating. Launch-ramp grit, lake water off the trailer, weeds and wet rope in the box, and a footwell that's been walked into straight off the ramp. Shoulder season is worse — the park roads and the pullouts along the valley turn to mud and it all comes back with you.

The most useful time to book from Cultus is the end of the summer, before the sand and damp spend a whole winter sitting in the carpet. We work by appointment so every vehicle gets proper time — book online or call the shop and we'll set a time block.
Common Questions
Can you actually get lake sand out of the carpet?
Yes. Sand settles down to the carpet backing where suction alone can't reach it, so we agitate the fibres to bring it back up and extract it. That's part of a standard interior detail.
My car smells like wet towels. Can that be fixed?
Usually, yes. The smell is moisture and what grew in it sitting in the carpet and padding, and steam plus hot-water extraction deals with it at the source. Heavy cases get our odour-removal add-on, quoted when we see the vehicle.
